We completed our unit of study on Wood and Paper. We did several investigations in our science studies, which included exploring sawdust, creating a sample of particle board, experimenting with paper and water, and recycling bath tissue into new paper. Your child will be bringing a science journal home soon. We recorded our observations and learnings in these journals. Please compliment your scientist on his/her hard work!
We have come so far in our independence during lunch time! The students are opening things on their own, using manners, and usually remembering to try everything on their trays! You can help your children gain independence by always letting them try to open things, put food on their own plates, and clearing their dishes when they are done.
We had a busy day with lots of special activities....library, computer, 3rd Grade Buddy Time, and Active Day! We made sure to get in some extra exercise in our active gear today.
Your scientist has been busy researching wood! We have been reading books on materials in our world, and noticing how everything in our school is made from different materials. Ask your child what the difference is between a natural and synthetic material! We studied how plywood is made and made a sample of our own plywood. We experimented with wood and water, and observed what happened when we used droppers to put water on different types of wood. We also did a fun experiment with floating and sinking wood. We are recording our observations in our science journals. They are so proud of their scientific findings!
