Thank you for all the donations that made our Materials Sculptures possible! They loved planning, creating, rearranging, and sharing their works of art! It was a fun closing to our unit of study on Materials. We also created a class book in the computer lab, which your child will get to bring home to share soon.

We have continued learning about materials in Science! We experimented with wood and water, and worked as teams to try get a wood sample to float. We have also been studying different fabrics, where they come from, and how they are made.
We have been busy studying materials in our world! These scientists have studied wood and paper, recycled paper, made plywood and particle board, and observed how water interacts with paper. We will continue with more experiments this week. And of course, we record all of our learning in our Science Notebooks!
While I meet with small groups and working on reading and writing skills, the class is working on managing their own learning. They might be researching on Chromebooks, creating an art project, illustrating poems, working on the Smartboard, or working on vowel sounds. These stations change every couple weeks. They are working on helping each other and solving problems on their own during work time. We also share our learning when we are done. It is fun to see what they have worked on independently!
We celebrated our 100th Day of Kindergarten with lots of activities…doing 100 exercises, building 100 in different ways, making 100th day hats, sharing our 100 items for Show and Tell, drawing what we will look like when we are 100 years old, writing a class book about spending $100, and reading 100 books! It only took us 14 minutes to read all 100 books. As you can tell from the photo, they were VERY excited!
Mrs. Town visited our classroom and read a wonderful story, Kindness is Cooler. We are working on being kind to others in our classroom and including everyone.. This Friday is a great opportunity for your whole family to practice acts of kindness together at our Family Fun Night, from 6:00 to 7:30! We have continued to study Eric Carle and his wonderful writing and illustrations. We decided to recreate his book, The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse. We loved the message of this book...that artists can create WHATEVER they want! We planned what crazy animals we would make, painted paper just like Eric Carle, created tracers to make our animals, cut out the shapes from our painted paper, and put the animals together to create the book. Look for this fantastic book at conferences...we will have it displayed!
We had so much fun at Stages Theater in Hopkins, watching the Fancy Nancy play! The kindergartners did such a great job on the bus AND sitting respectfully during the play. We loved all the fun characters, silly songs, and fancy words. Thank you to all the chaperones for coming with us!
