Our new unit of study is our first science unit....Weather! I hope your little scientist can share some of what we have learned. We have been studying nonfiction texts and noticing how they are different from fiction texts. We have learned about the water cycle, meteorologists, and several types of weather. Your child might be interested in observing the weather or clouds at home. You could look up the temperature, and go outside to see what that temperature feels like. When is started pouring outside today, all of my meteorologists had to run to the window and study the weather! It is fun to see them so excited to learn! Check out our R.A.N. (Reading and Analyzing Nonfiction) chart in the photo below. The five sections on this chart include: Prior Knowledge, Confirmed Thinking, Misconceptions, New Learning, and Wonderings. We visit the chart often to see if we can add to our new learning, or if our research has confirmed our prior knowledge. The kindergartners do the thinking, and I do the writing on the chart. I am amazed at what these kindergartners observe and learn each day!
